tiny feet to balance on, tiny hands holding mine
beaming smile, eyes that shine
little baby toddling time
bound by clenched fist, wobbly knee
not one thought of breaking free
building slow stability
oh so steadily
down on all fours -if need be
standing’s fun, but hard, you see
now giggle, gasp, and shriek with glee
imagine something more could be… then suddenly
a dive, a stumble, a thrust of trust
what dawns is freedom as a must
you take the chance, one moment just
and you’re walking.
-for my Annie who is now walking!
